Together Since 2017

The Story of Kayalıtepe

Located on the northern slopes of the Gelibolu Yarımadası—which bears the traces of Anatolia’s ancient viticultural heritage—and commanding views of Imbros (Gökçeada) and the Saros Körfezi, our Eceabat Bağları joined our journey in 2017 in this unique landscape where sea and wind converge. In these lands that have witnessed crossings, winds and stories throughout history, the slopes, cooled by the sea, were meticulously cultivated, and the vines were nurtured with patience. On this long journey that began from scratch, Eceabat’s unique climate shapes the character of the vineyard. The coolness of the winds blowing throughout the day, the salty air from the sea, and the difference in temperature between night and day ensure the vines ripen slowly and evenly. This balance forms the foundation for wines with great aromatic depth, vibrancy and elegance.

"Kayalıtepe was born in the early 1990s as an escape plan. Defying the weariness of the years, we hoped to leave life behind, along with all its groundless anxieties, and we strove to achieve this. We brought together our carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon grapes with the fine soil of Gelibolu in a small vineyard cottage, sparing no effort. Over time, the plan didn’t quite work out. But our efforts led to a miracle, and this unique flavour—which will accompany you with great pleasure—has made its way to your table."

On these lands, entrusted to us by owners who have nurtured their vineyards as if they were their own children, we continue our journey of production with vines cultivated with care and love, now having reached the ideal ripeness for winemaking. As we rediscover the potential offered by these windy slopes, surrounded by the sea, year after year, we eagerly await the stories our Eceabat Bağları will tell in the future.

Location

On our land, situated at an altitude of 50 metres, we grow grapes as our main crop, as well as olives and vegetables and fruit for our own enjoyment.

Grown in our vineyards, which are bathed in the afternoon sun on one side and cooled by refreshing northerly and westerly breezes on the other, and harvested by hand, our grapes are transformed into fine, delightful wines in our winery.

Our products

  • GRAPE: On a vineyard spanning a total of 200 decares, with a clay-loam soil structure ideal for producing fine wines and planted exclusively with Cabernet Sauvignon, we have since added Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Karasakız grape varieties to expand our range of wines.
  • OLIVE: Olive cultivation for oil production continues across a total area of 25 decares, with the Trilye and Arbekina varieties being grown.

Principle of Production

In our vineyards, we practise controlled agricultural production based on traceability and reliability, guided by the principles of low-yield viticulture and environmentally responsible viticulture. Electronic monitoring systems are used to enable early diagnosis and intervention in the fight against diseases and pests. The grapes are harvested by hand and, immediately after harvesting, are stored in our cold storage facilities until they reach the appropriate processing temperature.

Grape Harvest Events

At our annual grape harvest events, held each year during the harvest season, you can experience grape picking in our vineyards and observe the wine-making process up close using traditional methods. On this special day, surrounded by nature and in tune with the rhythm of the vineyards, you are invited to an unforgettable experience where the earth, hard work and the harvest come together.
